Are individual player name changes possible here? I am playing a custom FM26 database and tried to change a player name and it worked fine, but the second time I tried it, I ran into a couple of issues.

  • Name changes do not seem to be individual - for instance, if I try to change the first name "James" I get a message asking if I want to change all players named "James", rather than just the single one I am editing.

  • Name changes seem to need the same number of characters - for instance, if I try to rename "James" to "Jim" it will actually be "Jim " with two spaces at the end, if I try to rename "Jim" to "James" It won't let me because I am adding extra characters.

The player I did rename successfully appears fine in game with the new name (it was a Japanese player and I guess it's possible the first and second names were unique?), but when I check in the editor I can see the extra spaces after the surname (as it is a shorter name), and if I use Genie Scout, this is more visible due to the formatting, so it shows as "xxxx , xxxxx" (surname, spaces, comma, first name).

I figure this is probably not something most people do, but I don't know if I'm missing a trick, or if changing just an individual name is not possible due to the way the database works or something.

Many thanks!

I think that is a known bug.

as per this below- read this

checked still no issue for me in Build 26

changed several names with no issues

I tried with the same name from that post (didn't see that one in a search before posting, sorry - though I've no idea how I would have missed it...) and I still can't go beyond the existing number of characters for first or second name, and when saving, it is still linked to everyone else sharing the name:

I'm not sure what build I used previously when I was able to change a name, but this one is build 26 as is yours, which makes it doubly odd.

did you read the linked thread?-

Are you running FMRTE as administrator- state YES/No [This is suggested/ important as most issues are caused by not running the App correctly-RIGHT CLICK ON App Run as administrator]

Yes, I can confirm that I am running FMRTE as an administrator (I wasn't sure, so I closed it, and ran it as administrator and still experienced the same issues).

When I reopened FMRTE I noticed there was a new build, so I ignored this and continued with build 26. On still having the same result, I then installed build 27 and ran it as administrator with the same result - spaces are added back in on saving a name that is shorter than the original, I am unable to make a name longer than the original (it just won't type past the original number of characters), and the names appear linked as I am asked to confirm I want to change all instances of the name.

I hadn't noticed the bit about first deleting the existing name (rather than just overtyping it), but I just tried that and it made no difference.

Remaining details from main help post:

[1] What is your exact FM version: 26.1.0.2245540 (m.e v26.1.0.0)

[2] What is your exact FMRTE version: FMRTE26.1.1-build 27

[3]Are you running FMRTE as administrator: YES

[4]Do you have a current license: Yes. Bought directly via this site.

Edit: Oh, and running the Windows version on PC, too.

Thanks!
