For a very long time now this is what I get every time I try to open the editor. It has done this on two different OS (Windows 8 and now Windows 7) and two different PC's. I am clearly doing something wrong but have no idea what.

Here is the error log, this is the newest version, I just down loaded it again to try

Nope, well technically I could install a virtual machine, problem is that would not explain the problem even if it did work because they would be a whole new PC for all practical purposes. I think it is fairly important for support of FMRTE to understand if it works in 64 bit or not, as the majority of computer users are now on 64 bit operating systems.

It makes me wonder if it is possible to install FMRTE in a way so that it runs in 32 bit mode.

You can actually with the dual boot function.  Just install a 32-bit OS alongside your 64-bit OS if you have enough space.  The boot loader should automatically pick up the newly installed OS, but just adding a new line into the boot.ini file is very easy to do too.

It is the norm nowadays but people tend to not realise that 64-bit systems can sometimes not allow software to perform properly as software is programmed for 32-bit systems.  However, the software should work as 64-bit is backwards compatible with 32 and 16-bit.

"However, the software should work as 64-bit is backwards compatible with 32 and 16-bit."

Hold up - this. You can't compile software to be compatible with all three - you can make it so it works with 64 and 32 but that rules out 16. Like wise you can make it compatible with 32 and 16 but that rules out 64. Also, if it is compiled for 32 bit directly it will only work in 32 bit. They are not backward compatible.

Unless I misunderstand you and you are saying that I can install a 32 bit OS on my hardware. That might be true, fairly certain it is not, but it that is not an issue. Like I said I would just use a VM. I would not however run a dual boot because I work in IT and use this PC to VPN in sometimes. The encryption would pick up the dual boot and would reject the connection. So that part is not so important to me because I have a way to do it as is, but I am trying to troubleshoot why the program will not work on my system as it is. I think that is reasonable since I have a very standard configuration of Windows.

Does anyone know which bit this application is complied for? I was assuming 32 bit until I swapped to 64 bit and it no longer works.

I am not a programmer so I would not know how software architectures actually work and if they all can be cross linked.  The developement of FMRTE is known only by BraCa, but I guess maybe he has compiled it for 64-bit systems as they are people on here that use the RTE on 64-bit OSs and have no problems, so far anyway.  In the Bug Tracker forum, there are people who use it on 32-bit systems but do have problems with it but from what I can recall, this particular issue is not present for 32-bit systems.

You can install a 32-bit OS on your hardware (providing your hardware meets the minimum/required specifications) as I had on my old system with a P4 processor and 2GB RAM.  It was Windows XP to be exact and it worked fine.  FMRTE worked on that all the time.

One method you can try is to look in Services for anything that may conflict with FMRTE.  Look for a service for .Net Framework 4.  There is one in particular that can cause startup issues for other applications and when I disabled that service, there was no startup lag.  I think it is called Microsoft DotNet/.Net Framework 4 something and I think the file associated with that service is mscorsvw.exe.
